With the support and encouragement of Bishop Ron Herzog (Bishop of Alexandria and DISC Episcopal Moderator), Bishop John Wester, chair of the Communications Committee of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), invited DISC to identify a member to serve as a consultant to the committee. In August, Bill Glover, CIO for the Archdiocese of Baltimore and Past President of DISC) was invited by Bishop Wester to serve as that consultant to the committee. As a consultant, Bill represents DISC and is expected to bring expertise as a technology and communication professional and as an active lay Catholic.
The USCCB Communications Committee’s mandate, as approved by the body of bishops, “seeks to support the work of evangelization and faith formation through a comprehensive approach to media that includes media relations, media production and programming, policy, review of entertainment media, publishing, distribution, and licensing with sensitivity towards culturally diverse communities.” It includes providing direction and guidance to the USCCB Communications Department, which is comprised of the offices of its Secretariat, Catholic News Service, Creative Services, Customer and Client Relations, and Media Relations. The Subcommittee for the Catholic Communication Campaign also fulfills one responsibility of the Committee, in the determination of grants from the Campaign fund. The Communications Committee meets three times a year.
Please join DISC in thanking Bishop Herzog for his advocacy in raising the awareness of our organization and in congratulating Bill on his appointment.
