Besides the heartfelt prayers of the board of directors and membership, the Diocese of Biloxi, Archdiocese of New Orleans and the Diocese of Houma- Thibodaux were offered assistance in their disaster recovery. The Board of Trustees asked the DISC membership for volunteers to assist the dioceses in disaster recovery from hurricane Katrina & Rita. Assistance was offered in the range of unpacking computers, wiring, setting up networks and equipment in the chancery, parishes and schools. There was immediate response from the membership and the list has grown to 18 people offering some kind of service or equipment.

The DISC board of Trustees voted to offer $200 to help defray members travel expenses. The Archdiocese of Santa Fe offered to match that $200 since they did not have the personnel to send. Other equipment and services was offered from 15 other dioceses. This is a great testimony of the caring and thoughtfulness of our membership and that we are true Christians working together.

The Diocese of Biloxi and the Archdiocese of New Orleans are still working on a plan of how they can best use the services of the members that have come forward. The Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux declined our offer of assistance and instead came to the call themselves by offering shelter, food and emergency care. It is our hope that this project will be of use to help our fellow dioceses in the near future. Without actually being there, we can only imagine what they went through and will continue to go through. If you would like to be put on the list of volunteers or have any other service to offer you can contact Martin Thompson from the Diocese of Steubenville or (740) 282- 3631.
