Once again this year the DISC membership has benefited with profits through its partnerships with various vendors. A percentage of that profit was used this year for the Mission Grant Program. This program awards grants to organizations serving in a variety of ministries that do not have the funding resources to accomplish their work.
All of the 12 applications we received this year were very worthy causes. It was announced at the conference there were two recipients and they are:
The Berakhah House submitted by Diocese of Sioux Falls, South Dakota – The Berakhah House is a ministry of the Diocese of Sioux Falls and is a home for people living with AIDS. The people come from various circumstances, ages and with out prejudice. The goal of the home is to offer hope to the resident as well as the family beyond the assisted living that is also offered. Funding from DISC would help to subsidize the food budget for residents and those still living in their apartments.
Morgan County United Ministries submitted by Diocese of Steubenville, Ohio – The MCUM is a Central Agency established by local churches for all people in Morgan County Ohio. They provide a thrift shop, food pantry, financial support, school supplies and of course “prayers”. They also have several programs such as Shoe-A-Child, Seeds for Life, Christmas Toy Distribution and Work Camps to help the needy with repairs and maintenance. With the declining economy and as unemployment grows they would use the funds from DISC to provide “Blankets of Care” to the homeless and persons involved in house fires.
We, as members, have been given the opportunity to model our faith in the form of stewardship. This is a demonstration of our faith that we are all one, working to carry out the mission of the church. Please continue to purchase from the vendors that help make this program possible.
